What's New?

The BMW X3 is redesigned for the 2018 model year and the lineup receives a new M performance model in the X3 M40i. The available head-up display grows by 75 percent in 2018 and the standard 10.25-inch touchscreen now comes standard with gesture control technology. Active Protection pre-crash accident detection system is now standard along with sport seats and three-zone automatic climate control.

Overview

Slotting between the entry-level X1 and the larger X5, the 2018 BMW X3 redefines what it means for an SUV to be an SUV. The 2018 model continues BMW's "sports activity vehicle" philosophy by providing the style, luxury, and driving dynamics of the carmaker's sedans and coupes to a high-riding crossover. The result is a vehicle that's just as happy tackling the daily commute as a 3 Series sedan but can do a lot more when called upon, especially when the going gets tough.

The Perfect Ride for…

Drivers looking for a vehicle that boasts the capabilities of a crossover but has the control of a coupe. The 2018 BMW X3 combines the world of BMW's luxury and performance with the ample size and utility of a crossover, quite literally offering the best of both worlds. With a number of impressive standard technology features, you'll feel right at home, but there's always the option to upgrade to the number of luxury features the X3 boasts so proudly. Whatever your decision, you really can't find a vehicle that compares.

Drive & Handling

An Ultimate Driving Machine needs a powerful and responsive engine, and the 2018 BMW X3 has a whole selection of them. They'll keep you entertained on the road without breaking the bank when it comes time to fill up.

Starting at $42,450,* the standard X3 xDrive30i is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That's 8 horsepower more than the outgoing xDrive28i and it shows—the XDrive30i is estimated to go from 0-60 in 6 seconds and is capable of reaching a top speed of 130 mph.

Ushering in the new M performance engine, the X3 xDriveM40i is outfitted with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that cranks out an impressive 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. For perspective, that's up 55 horsepower and 69 pound-feet from last year's most powerful X3 model. It's said to hit 60 mph in a short 4.6 seconds, which is a feat for any vehicle, let alone an SUV. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard.

EPA-estimated gas mileage for the X3 xDrive30i is 25 mpg combined (22 city/29 hwy),** which is competitive for its class. The larger, more powerful M40i is good for 23 mpg combined (20 city/27 hwy).**
